Hello everyone.

I recently purchased an IdeaPad Y510p running Windows 8.1 with a core i7 and Geforce GTX755m. Im playing Skyrim and I unplug my laptop and the framerate plummets into the single digits. Ive done everything I could think of to fix this including playing with power settings and setting up the nvidia ctrl panel to run Skyrim using dedicated graphics but nothing.

I installed cpuz and MSI Afterburner to monitor and the CPU speed slows down but does pick back up. I noticed in Afterburner that video memory usage fell from about 2200 to under 1000.

Ive been searching the Internets for the last two days for the remedy but I cent seem to find one. Can any of you please help me with this problem?

Check your windows power settings, odds are when you unplug the battery it is tripping out of full power mode and switching back to integrated graphics from the main GPU to conserve on power. The 755M requires a hell of a lot more power than the IGP on the i7.

This is typical Of laptops as battery power will do its best to conserve best longevity
You will need to set performance profile to not save any power select a max or no pwr...

Press the windows key, type... power select Power options. check High Performance
May help

I have already set my plan to maximum performance. I decided to make a custom profile anyway and had everything in the advanced options maxed out and Im still having this problem. Any other ideas?

Bios settings also have power settings (not usually the ones that matter though)

Does that laptop come with its own Power software - windows may not be cutting it

Carry a long extension lead or generator ;(

I noticed this in cpu-z. The first image is with the laptop plugged in, the second without.

Does anyone else have any input on the subject? Are there some power settings somewhere I am missing? This is my first laptop so Im sure I probably missed something somewhere.

Okay, I know exactly what happened here. You have been playing your laptop plugged in WAY too much. This happened to me as well. What happened is that you technically ruined the internals, making them only run optimally when plugged in. This may sound weird, but you basically tricked your laptop into thinking it's a desktop. If it isn't plugged in, then your battery wont run very well as the constant feed of power and usage from high requirement games (like Skyrim) has diminished what it is capable of doing. Your best chance of fixing is to send it to be serviced.
