I have an HDMI cable, and when I used it with my TV and XBOX, it worked fine. Is there anyway that it will work the same way with a laptop?

no. HDMI on 99.99999% of all laptops are output only, not input. I have seen I think 1 or 2 models out of thousands of laptops that have an HDMI input.

You would need a capturing device in order to use an xbox as a display on your laptop. Your best bet would be to get a monitor of your choice, anything with dvi or hdmi would work and some speakers and your set. Most likely would be the cheapest route and you would have full resolution without any hicups because the computer cant keep up.
