Hello all, newbie to the overclock and computer hardware in general, so please bare with me. So i just built a relatively inexpensive gaming computer. My current specs are:

cpu - Amd FX-8320 3.5ghz(4.0boost)
mobo - Gigabyte [ GA-970A-d3p ]
gpu - geforce 660
mem - 2x4gb gskill sticks
hdd 1tb seagate
psu - 500w rosewill stallion rd500 2db

Soon to get (before OC) - Hyper 212 evo

Now, i would like to overclock it to reach 4.0ghz constant and ive read a bunch where i can do this without tinkering with any of the voltages. Is this possible? Or does it differ for all different computers? and another random question, is a 500W psu like the one i have (reviews were good) just fine with running this? I mean, it does just fine right now. Thank you guys for any info or tips!

Your setup as is will be suitable. If you plan to OC your GPU and CPU you might run into stability problems related to your PSU.

4ghz is the standard boost the cpu has so I see no issue why you wouldn't be able to maintain 4ghz on demand. Interestingly enough, the voltages set forth out of the box are fairly generous (high) with FX chips. Once you get experience, you can actually reduce the voltage set in your motherboard to reduce temperature and strain on your system.

For example, my 8120, previous model, ran about 1.33ish volts at stock settings to accommodate boost to 4ghz. I am actually running the cpu at 4.1ghz @ 1.28 volts now. You can find out the limits of your chip.

You have a modest clock setting in mind and you really don't need to tinker too much. Each chip differs from one another and your motherboard is unlikely to support massive overclocks anyways.

TLDR Personally 500 watts is a bit too close for me but if it's running fine as is I wouldn't worry too much, just consider undervolting your cpu.
