installed the 1333mhz still goes to windows repair screen and cant get past it, i agree prob a BIOS thing but i know nothing about changing this, and i was told i should just be able to put in the new ram and it would be ok. is it possible that ram brand makes a difference? alienware says i can have a max of 16gb of ram and my motherboard has 4 slots so i dont see why i cant put 2 4gb sticks in 2 slots. also i was told to get 1333mhz of ddr3 which i have done.

I'm not sure how much Alienware locks their BIOS but when the system starts to boot, press F2 or delete. Usually durring the splash screen. In hte bios somewhere you will find the settings for ram. you will need to make sure the timings are set correctly and the speed is set to 1333.

Ya i tried that and even just got my pc back from a hired computer tech. He was totally stumped and is telling me he could not set the speed in bios but the latency and volt is fine. He is saying maybe the after market ram is not compatable with the alienware motherboard he was stumped

It would not be that the ram is incompatible with the motherboard But it would be incompatible with the CPU. The memory controller was moved onto the CPU in the AMD Phenom II/ Athlon II and Intel Core I series CPU's. Just a tid bit of info on the subject.

the inability to adjust the bios settings is due to Dell/Alienware and many other OEM PC makers like to lock some of there bios so they can not be accessed.

I had a tech out here last night that said he could fix the bios so i could install the ram. Keep in mind my computer was running fine with my old ram in. Now i cant even get on my computer with the old ram in. He completly destroyed my computer and i am at a lost of what to do. I cant even get on with my old ram now. Just says repairing. I had to ask the guy to leave all he did was say this is very suprising. he came to fix my computer now its worse then ever

I contacted them 3 times, every person i get says that its out of warranty so they cant talk to me, i have even offered to pay all 3 people say its the way i put the ram in but i have done it and so have 2 diffrent techs. this last tech has it now to where i cant even go onto my computer without a system repair thing coming up and even after running all night and completing restarts and does the same thing. I have come to the conclution if you have a dell or alienware you just cant update ram, this simple thing has destroyed my computer. I will never buy a dell or alienware ever again, and i advise everyone reading this to know that you cant go into bios and try to set up speeds for new ram alienware locks everything out, your stuck with the ram you got.
