Hi all,

I am working on building an HTPC and I'm having some problems. I've hooked everything up but I can't get anything to display on my monitor or HDTV. I'm not sure if I'm getting a post or not as I also can't figure out where to plug in the case speaker. Here are my specs and what I've tried

MB = GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN-WIFI
RAM = G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-8GAB
APU = AMD A4-5300 Trinity 3.4 GHz
HDD = WD Green WD40EZRX 4TB drive
Case = Apex MI-008 (includes 250W power supply)

The HDD spins up as far as I can tell. It's pretty quiet, but I can feel the vibrations when I touch it. The cpu fan seems to be working fine. The computer will stay on as long as I leave it and doesn't unexpectedly shut down. I've removed a stick of RAM and tried booting up, and then tried the other stick, that hasn't helped.

The only monitor I have is an older flat panel with VGA and HDMI. Since there is no VGA port on this board, I'm trying to use the HDMI. So far the closest I've come to having something display is that when I decided to try hooking it up to my TV the input lit up like there was something attached. However, it still said no signal when I switched over to it.

One random thought, I used some black screws to secure the MB to my case. Could that be causing a problem?

I apologize, I'm pretty new to building PCs as this is only my second attempt. Which motherboard light are you referring to? I don't see any lights. I've screwed the mobo down and everything seems to be functioning except for my ability to see anything on my monitor.

Thank you for that, I will run through the list as soon as I get home. One obvious question, however, is that my case has raised areas where the MB sits to screw into. Do I still need standoffs on theses?

That's a good question. I've never used that particular case. What does the owner manual say? Does the motherboard line up with the back panel without standoffs? I believe you don't need extra standoffs with that case, but ensure the motherboard doesn't have anything touching it where there isn't a standoff hole.

Thank you for linking to the troubleshooting guide. I went through all of the steps and was pretty discouraged when none of them seemed to be the culprit. The last thing I tried was removing the heat sink and checking on the processor. I was surprised that the processor came off the board along with the heat sink. It must not have been seated fully. I re-seated it and reattached the heat sink and flipped the switch and it worked. Thanks again.
