Hi
I recently built my second gaming rig and I bought a ssd for a main os boot and brought my first builds hdd over as extra storage. The hdd I brought over still has the previous window's 8.1 I installed. And the ssd has 8.1 installed on it now. My problem is I have my ssd set up as boot number one and my hard drive is recognized but it is in my desktop (no biggy) but my computer restarts about twice before I get to windows and sends me to the bios I close it and I get to window's. Recently I seen my ssd isn't recognized as my boot option instead my hdd is and these Keep alternating. Do I need to just delete the old os on my hdd? Any advice would help thanks!

Solution
Yes, if you see a boot option when the PC starts up and you select the wrong boot option the the will go back and forth going from top to bottom.

HDD Selected
SDD

Next boot

HDD
SDD Selected

Next boot

SDD
HDD

Now you can see that the SSD is on the top of the list of bootable drives as it was selected last boot. My PC does this all the time, the easiest fix is to re-name the OS's boot name.

If that doesn't help, then choose one of the drives as a storage drive, wipe it, and keep the OS on the other drive.

Also, make sure you know which drive has bootmgr on it, as boot mgr is a pain in the rear end xD...

Since all that is a fair amount of work, I suggest just saving info from the drives, wiping both, placing just the drive you plan to put the OS on in, installing the OS, then getting the other drive in as storage.

Best regards, Vel.
