Hello,

I'm building myself a new gaming computer and haven't been able to make a decision on a GPU. I intend to buy a 27in 1440p monitor shortly after finishing my computer to use by itself for gaming, and would like to use it with my 1080p monitor when not gaming. My question is whether a 4GB 770 would be able to handle this resolution on ultra settings on current and future games, or if I should go for a 780 instead. I'm open to other ideas as well, these cards just struck me as the best option, though I've also seen SLI 760s suggested... Also, I'd prefer to spend less than $600.

This is what I have/will have for my computer so far:

Intel i7-4770K
Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid
ASUS Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150
G. Skill Ripjaws X Series (2x8GB) DDR3-1866
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1B 7200RPM HDD (storage)
Fractal Design R4 "Black Pearl" w/ Window
Corsair 850W (got it super cheap)
Windows 7 HP

Any input is greatly appreciated!

A gtx 770sli would be your cheapest bet.

Even a gtx 780 struggles on ultra settings on that resolution.

A gtx 770sli for around 600-700 dollars will be ahead of competition and imo you should go for such a setup.

And a single gtx 780 is not wise on such resolutions with games like ARMA 3.

Check out ARMA 3 benchmarks and you will find you need SLI to make it happen.

http://www.techspot.com/review/712-arma-3-benchmarks/pa...

Same goes for Crysis 3.

SLI will be better in the long run And 2 x Gtx 770 destroy a single Gtx 780.

Thanks for all the speedy responses!

So what I'm seeing primarily is suggestions to get two 770s in SLI. I'm thinking I should get a 2GB to start with, and get another for SLI in the near future (the very near future if I notice significant drops in fps on games). If anyone thinks this is a mistake, let me know!

Again I appreciate all the help! :)

You won't be able to game on a single 770 on that resolution at ultra settings that's for sure.

I'd say invest in an SLI at this time.

EVGA Gtx 770 sli 4gb variant costs around 400 dollars. If you can just save some cash and get two SLI for 800 dollars that would be awesome.

It would jump up your experience in almost every game.

for 800$ he can get a cheaper ver of 780ti with less sli woes or for another 200$ more aim for titan black. sli 4gb at such a resolution wont make much of a diff. toms benchmarked it

So much controversy :p . I can't really swing an $800 investment into graphics, I can barely swing the $600 and still expect to get my monitor, unfortunately. I can however spend the ~$600 now and spring for SLI in the distant future if necessary. In that case, maybe the 780 would be a better bet, as getting those SLI in the future would be far better than SLI 770s now... Thoughts?

I definitely won't be getting a titan, and I can't see being able to get a 780ti currently for the price. Money constraints are so bothersome.

If money is a constraint to you... then off course a Gtx 780 is your best bet with future ability to SLI two 770s.

Btw, an SLI 770 even beats the Gtx Titan quite comfortably even in BF3

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_770_sl...

in Metro Last light and other games....

So it would be a safe venture that 770 SLI will benefit at that resolutions more than a single card.

But since the OP has money constraints, he can probably buy the 780 for now with potential for advancement in future.

I live in the US, CA specifically. The 780ti costs ~$700, can get a 780 for ~$500, a 770 4GB for $400, and a 770 2GB for ~$330.

The relatively small cost difference between the 770 4GB and 780 is causing me to lean more and more towards the 780, with the possibility of getting a second for SLI in the distant future. I can get the 770 4GB now with the same option for the future and save myself some money if it would also handle the resolution, or I can probably swing getting two 770 2GBs now if they'll be enough for a long time (which isn't looking like the consensus).

780 in that case i shall post you the best posb links & prices....

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-gtx780dc2o...

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-03gp42781k... (currently good stock cooler)

if you wanna go ultra on 1440p then 780ti...but since u have budget constraints, uou can sli another in the future. evga would be the good 1 with rebates. plus u get 4 games free tooo :D

No single 770 is not worth at that resolution unless you are prepared to majorly cut down on your settings to medium all the time.

Go for the 780.

And 2gb is not a good VRAM either at that resolution.

I was strongly considering the EVGA as well, and I'm thinking I'll go with that. As much as I would love to get a 780ti, I really don't think I can manage it currently.

Thank you everyone for your input!
