Hi all,

I've just finished building my new gaming rig. I originally had a Sapphire R9 280X Toxic, however after just a few days I started getting loads of artifacts (I've seen a few posts about these problems) so its in the process of RMA atm.

So my question is do I go for another 280X Toxic or should I fork out the extra £40 for the MSI R9 290 (which I believe is significantly better, new chip type, True audio etc)????

Please let me know your opinions. Thanks folks.

The rest of my system is as follows:

i5 4670K (not currently overclocked)
Asus Maximus Hero VI
Corsair Hydro H60
16GB corsair vengeance, 1600MHz
Kingston SSD 120GB
WD HDD 1TB
Corsair CXM builder 750W
Fractal Design Define XL R2

If you have the possibility, definitely go for the R9 290 in this case.

Thanks for the swift responses. I didn't really want to stretch past the £340 mark, hence the MSI 290 at £330 was kind of my limit, plus the extra 1GB of vram will be useful for high res games like Rome 2.

I take it out of the 280X Toxic and the MSI 290 the 290 is a bit more future proof?

Cheers for the reply. Did you find that you have any issues with your Toxic while playing games with a lot of high res textures?

Nope, mine is running fine.
I overclocked it even further and it's running fast, smooth and cool ,-)
