Hello Forum:
So I've been posting a lot on here getting suggestions for potential upgrades for my PC. Several, of the responses have been that my current CPU cannot (or won't benefit) from a high end GPU......

Several responses said to grab the Gtx 650ti Boost and my PC should be fine until I want to do a whole CPU/Mobo Combo.........

PC Specs:
Amd Phenom IIx4 955 (Not Black edition....Not sure)
Windows 7
Gtx 460 756mb
600w Power Supply
8gb Ram

The problem is that this card is sold out at every site I look at.......

What are some good counterparts....and again, I cannot go above the 650ti boost or similar.

Thanks!

Solution
the 955 isn't a bad cpu. it's the swan song from amd before they moved to the modular design from bulldozer and as many noted when bulldozer launched, it sometimes lost to the 955. especially in single threaded apps where ipc's mattered (games).

so i wouldn't worry about the bottleneck until you throw in something like gtx 770+ or sli/crossfire. i personally would get a gtx760 that it can use on after i switch the cpu/mobo.

As all of the other posters have told me, I will get a pretty big bottle neck with anything over the 650 Ti boost......Is that not correct? I dont want to shoot myself in the foot =)

So yeah a lot of tech info there....All i really got from it lol was that those new cards dont need power from the main supply.....They run on the Pci lane alone.

Other than that they do seem extremely similar to the 650ti Boost....The performance seems dropped a little (less "cuda" cores) . This is the last component im buying for a while......

I want to make sure it complements what i have already and is a great step up from the 460.

you need a mid level card. it's as simple as that... all 3 cards i suggested are great for that cpu it's just a matter of finding the one at the best price/value. and this depends on where you are really and what's available and on your budget.

i suggested the 750ti only because it's a great card running at ridiculously low temperatures and noise levels compared to the 650ti boost which is about the same performance basically.

a great step up from the 460 would be a gtx760 if it's in your budget

Its not about the money so much. Ive been told on this site multiple times that my cpu will bottleneck anything higher than the 650 series. ...

Im all for buying a nice GPU but want to make sure my cpu can handle it.....Im not in a position to buy a new CPU/MOBO yet.

With that said my phenom II x4 955.....Whats the highest Gpu i can go without with the dreaded bottleneck?
