Hello,

I found a old hard drive of mine (IDE) not sata. i mounted the disk and i was able to view the files but did not have access to them like copying etc because i didnt have admin rights. so i took the hard drive and created a partition hoping it will allow me access but it was the worst thing i could have done. i checked the hard drive and all the files are gone. i tried find and mount didnt work. tried to recover using a software it shows all the files but cant recover. does anyone know of a free software that can recover these files that i can download i have very important files on it. i'll go crazy if i cant recover :(. im using windows 7 basic any response will be appreciated thanks in advance

All you had to do was set permissions for the folders or files you wished to access.
Or change the user rights.

If you created a new partition on the drive, and then used some recovery software to recover the old data of the drive.
The reason why it wont recover is because you have to choose another drive or set space to recover the data too. you cannot use the same hard drive to recover to as it will be over writing the data it is trying to recover to built a table of the data.
So it must be written to another empty drive ect source C: target D: to be built to be able to recover and read.

It reads the data, rebuilds it. but it cannot write back to the same drive as it would destroy or change the data it is trying to rebuild. The catch 22 situation.

The size of the destination drive must equal the size of the amount of data to be recovered from the source drive equivalent in capacity of the source.
