Hello people,
I have a Core 2 duo pc lying with me. It was showing some problems a couple of years ago and since then I haven't used it.
Now there is a need for me to buy a desktop, and I am willing to upgrade that desktop only!
I want the following specifications in the desktop:
1)Core i5/i3
2)8GB RAM
3)500 TB HDD
4)A suitable graphics card from NVDIA or GeForce for softcore gaming

My budget is around Rs 25000, will I be able to upgrade my pc in the given amount? Please suggest which suitable parts are to be bought and upgraded. I will retain the same cabinet!

I can postpone installing of Graphics card if in this budget I can get an i5!

PS: Noob here regarding hardware components!

Hi Parth,

You will need to upgrade your motherboard as well. So you have to add that amount to your part list.

I would suggest that you also take a look at an AMD build as well. Considering that prices in India are generally higher than US and the awesome thing that 6300 is now available to us, you can have a look at the following builds.

You will notice that going with an i3 coupled with a 4 gb ram, you do get to install a decent entry level gaming card. with the other two options, you can't.

Also, you need to tell us which psu(smps) you have. Since you have a really old one, I would suggest that you upgrade to a quality psu first. Do not go with such brands as intex or vip. Stick with coolermaster or corsair. A 450W psu will work for your requirements.

Hardwire.in does not always have the same prices as what you may find in your local market. Do a through research and you can usually get a good additional 5% off on each component. Local vendors normally offer better prices. Another website you can refer is "theitdepot". This should give you a good idea of pricing.

good luck

Thanks satyam for your help! I am thinking that since I will be able to squeeze an graphics card withing the given budget if I go for i3, I'll go for it only! I will only use the pc for mid-level gaming and some web surfing, it should be sufficient for that!

Just one more question, how are the brands 'MSI' and 'Gskill'? Shall I go for them?

Thanks again!

lol.. just help me with one more question and your answer will again be the best answer :p

Shall I add Corsair VS450 450 Watt PSU? Will it be compatible with the motherboard and processor I selected?
