My friend's Asus AR5B125 touch ultrabook stopped working a few days ago. Upon powering it on it makes 30 beeps, all about one second apart, then shows a screen that says this:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intel UNDI. PXE-2.0 (build 003)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v21.1.1(12/23/11)

Check Cable Connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key_
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We tried changing the SATA mode from AHCI to IDE and tried disconnecting, cleaning, and reconnecting the HDD, both to no avail.

I appreciate if anyone can help with this issue!

P.S. Just a heads up, taking it to the shop is not exactly an option. Thanks!

Most likely the hard drive has failed and needs replacing.

The screen that shows:

Check Cable Connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM

means that the system is trying to boot from the Atheros Ethernet network controller because it cannot find the hard drive. Missing drive or drive failure is also confirmed by the beep sounds.

have you tried it on any other machine just to make sure it works well?
check for boot priority option in bios, if you have selected to boot from your hdd. [strike]Make sure connections of power and sata cable are firmly attached.[/strike]

Haven't tried it in another machine yet. Will check the boot priority too and get back to you.

I'm thinking that it is hard drive failure. He says when his little brother uses it he is really rough, I was thinking that may cause it to come out of place, but could that be the cause of failure as well?

If it would be the only option, any idea if I took only the Hard drive into a shop if they would fix it and how much it would cost?
