hi all,
I have installed new hard disk on my Sony vaio laptop. Now the problem arises in this feature of vaio of built in windows 7 OS recovery disc which is preinstalled in laptop Hard disc, which means no insertion of CDrom while rebooting. Now since i have changed this internal hard disk, how to retain the windows 7 which i had in previous HDD?

Does the original drive still work? If so, put it back in. There is probably a function to create a set of factory restore disks.

Borrow or download a windows 7 dvd or USB and do a clean install on your new hard drive.
The activation code sticker on your laptop will suffice to reactivate.

hello,
the whole problem arose when i tried to reboot my viao laptop and half way through it stopped/hanged and the reboot did not happen completely. Through the "Assist botton" procedure(to retain factory setting), I was able to do the backup but when the procedure of recovery started, the laptop hanged and stopped.
So, i was advised that i had developed a problem in my HDD. hence, new hard disk.
Creating factory restore disk never arose.

Hi there,
So does that mean I can borrow Windows 7 disc from anyone. and install it by applying my windows 7 key. Will that work?

Exactly.
You will want the proper 32/64 bit version dvd and need to specify during install the windows version(home premium/pro/ultra)
