How do I know my Graphics card is compatible with the MoBo?

I have seen many advices here about graphics cards and Motherboards. But as I am currently not sure about which ones exactly I will buy I want to know how I can find it out myself. What Exactly is everything I have to consider. What can go wrong with it. Is it just considering if the PSU can handle it and getting the correct PCI? I heard there's a lot of things that can go wrong. So in other words what is the trick to finding out that this MoBo supports the graphics card myself rather than getting the answer on a forum.

There is no 100% way to check compatibility other than putting th video in the MB and trying it. That said 99% ot the new cards are PCI-E x16 3.0 and 99% of the new MBs are PCI-E x16 3.0 so theoretically they should work together fine.
Compatibility problem appear more often when upgrading the video card of a older PC, where the PCI-e version is 1.0. Although PCI-E x16 3.0 video and PCI-E x16 1.0 MB are physycally compatible and most often work ok together I'd say that there is something like 5-10% chance of the setup not working.
Another thing to consider are brand PCs like HP, Dell, IBMs again mostly the older models, they sometimes have bios restrictions, and can handle only spefic video models, to check this you have to search for...

Well most 'new' motherboards have a PCI-Express slot which will house your graphics card.

The issue is whether or not it is going to support your processor...
and
whether or not your power supply will be adequate for your graphics card...

What processor, graphics card and power supply did you have in mind?

In my mind I have every processor, graphics card and motherboard. Rather than asking on a certain model I want to learn how can I recognize if they are compatible by myself. What is everything I have to consider?

Thank you. That's what I wanted to know. Picking as the solution :bounce: . Before I'm completely satisfied I'd also like to know if there could be any compatibility issues with the graphics card and the processor.
