I have inherited a Phenom II x6 1090t sans fan. I have a Cooler Master Hyper 101a (newegg says it was an i) with the mounting brackets for AMD but I need to know if it will at least provide adequate cooling. I have no intentions of overclocking. Just want to know if this configuration will work.

Manufacturer specifications say that the Hyper 101 only works with the Phenom II X3/X4 on the AM3 socket:

CPU Support

AMD:
Phenom II X4/X3 (partial)
Phenom X4/X3 (partial)
Athlon II X2
Athlon X2 (partial)
Athlon
Sempron

That being said, if you're not going to overclock I can't imagine that the Hyper 101 couldn't do anything that the stock AMD heatsink could so I'd say give it a try and closely monitor your temps at idle and load either in the BIOS or with a program like HWMonitor--if you start approaching the 62° C mark then you'll know that the Hyper 101 isn't cutting it.
