I have Verizon FiOS internet service. When my dad upgraded our internet speed they sent us a new MI424WR router but its a newer model. Our internet speeds are faster but just like the old one it has bad signal strength that doesnt effectively reach all of my house. Unfortunately my house is not hardwired so I cant plug in my Xbox or any other of my devices to a wall ethernet port. I need to find a way to use both of these routers on my home network and have them use the same SSID and use either WPA2 or WEP. Im relatively tech-savy but it would be great if you could state replies as simply as you can.

A repeater is the best solution. But you have to put it midway between the main router and your location. If you put it next to the XBox, it will see exactly the same crappy signal as you do now.

And whatever you do, do not use WEP encryption. Horribly broken and trivially cracked.

You would be able to do this if the second router had an Extender or Repeater mode, this would at least give you a better signal.
Since providers usually offer pretty basic model routers I doubt this is possible.

A new range extender would cost from $30.
I usually suggest TP-Link, they inexpensive and work well.
They usually have more than one working mode so they can be used in other scenarios if needed.

Don't they both have to have a wired connection to the internet?
