Got a pretty strange problem with a new HTPC build. i3-4130, Gigabyte H87M, onboard graphics and sound. HDMI out to receiver and on to Pany plasma. When the graphics proc is engaged, ie..,VLC or XBMC is running, I have great sound and system sounds work. When VLC or XBMC are not running, I loose sound. I have tried every combination of installing and removing both Intel and RealTek audio drivers, tweaked and un-tweaked BIOS settings, tried to override HDMI sound by using the analog outputs on my mobo but, no joy. It's a minor problem as I can get sound by opening VLC but, like most of you, I am sure, I just want everything to work right.

I have, ewok...that is, I've changed the default device preferences several times. It feels like the problem is a driver conflict between Intel Display Audio and RealTek HD Audio drivers but, I've tried every combination of installs of both.
