Go for windows 8.1 as it has longer support and uses less system memory, You'll most likely get a fps boost as well. And newer games with be developed to work with it sooner or later. If you need a start button check this out:

AFAIK 8.1 uses more memory.

I heard in many scenarios it uses more memory than windows 7. Also is riddled with bugs.

Maybe you should not be making suggestions if you haven't personally had experience with both. What you've "heard" is certainly not true.

I have used Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. I highly recommend Windows 8.1 for any new build. It's slightly faster than Windows 7 and is better optimized to the latest hardware. There is a lot of hate for Windows 8 out there by people either parroting what they've "heard" or people that can't get over the learning curve. Windows 8.1 is a solid OS. I don't see any downside to using it.

I upgraded from Win7 to Win8.1. Did it partly for the fps-boost that people said it would give. If there is one, it's not as big as other people have stated. But im definately liking the os itself. Was very worried about all these negative amazon reviews but now that i can speak for myself: it's a great os. period. People giving it extremely bad reviews are just being over-dramatic in my opinion and reluctant to widen their horizont.

Son, you are telling me not to assume things when you yourself are assuming I never used the OS. I have used 8 and 8.1 quite a bit and while I have never tested the RAM usage (which is the only part I "heard") I know for a fact it is riddled with bugs. OP it's your choice but 7 will usually have better support (as some non-AAA games dont support w8), will have less bugs (if you encounter any at all that is), and the UI is personal preference (7 is better for desktop, 8 is better for touchscreen imo). Someone close this thread quickly as I sense an oncoming flame war.
