So I was working on my fans and the direction of air flow and before I booted back up I slid back my hdds in their 3 to 4 5.25" bay adapter to install an alpha cool display I just got. I booted up an everything was fine I installed the drivers and everything seemed to be working fine and then either I had one safe restart or upon shutting down to work on my cable management I got a BSOD.

It's a usbhub.sys error and I found this useful link but I don't know if I can trust the software so that I can try the different options, one of which mentioned the registry which I never touch and don't wanna touch due to lack of knowledge.
http://aeoid.com/usbhub-sys-blue-screen/

I have unplugged the device and uninstalled the drivers and don't see anything left of the software/driver etc for the alpha cool display.

The full BSOD info I was able to catch is.....
*** Stop: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005 , 0xFFFFF88004E4A3ED , 0xFFFFF88013 the screen I think cut some of that last line then the next line of text down is, xFFFFF88013D94F90)
*** usbhub.sys - ADDRESS FFFFF88004E4A3ED base at FFFFF88004E2C000. Then the picture I toke cuts off again.

My build:
Win7 ultimate 64 bit
Asus rampage IV extreme
Intel i7 3960x
Corsair vengeance black 1600mhz 32gb (4x8gb)
Samsung 840 512 gb SSD (regular/non-evo ver)
1 EVGA GTX 780 ti super clocked kraken g10/x40 cooled (originally ACX cooled ver)
- i have a 2nd 780 ti I usually run with aswell but this issue happened with just the one installed
4 WD caviar black 3tb HDDs for storage
Asus rog phoebus sound card

So to sum up,
Is the usbhub.sys repair software from the link safe?
What should I do?
What would you do?
Would you agree with me that the alphacool USB display caused this?

Okay sorry for late reply i tried following this guide with no luck but i did find a useful program sorta, its more of a time saver
Its called SF Diagnostic Tool i found it on a BSOD troubleshooting related thread on sevenforum
http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Heres the last crash file
http://www.mediafire.com/download/s0kd4jufn7f1b4l/030114-13525-01.dmp
Heres what SF Diag made for me was a copy and i zipped it and uploaded it first cuz the .dmp wouldnt upload for so long for some reason.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/0hoxdt4xxkrdoia/SF_01-03-2014.rar

I tried the thread option 2 using the SF debug tool but when i signed up and then tried the link i got this screen that said...

"TheMadHatta, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

The page has been removed.
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."

So maybe i just have to give it some time?

Also whats windbg.exe i havent given it a google :p can i safely get it from cnet i didnt see it pop up under windows search.

ATVM i am checking out the resplendence link from scout ill update the thread as soon as there is more info to give or add.

Alright awesome software TYTYTYTY soo gonna help in the future if i get BSOD which inevitability will happen lol

"Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. A third party driver has been identified to be causing system crashes on your computer. It is strongly suggested that you check for updates for these drivers on their company websites. Click on the links below to search with Google for updates for these drivers:

libusb0.sys (LibUSB-Win32 - Kernel Driver, http://libusb-win32.sourceforge.net)"

I cicked the link and noticed a google link saying this was a virus pretending to be a usbhub or something. Could it be that i downloaded a virus from alphacool for my display?
Heres a pic of the display i purchased
$_3.JPG

$_3.JPG

Its an "Alphacool Graphical LCD Front Panel Display Pixel Blue - Black Frame"
And heres where i got the software/drivers which made the display work
http://www.alphalcd.de/download.html

Is this just some bizarre coincidence that i caught a virus the same time i installed the display? :p

You should never download 'updates or fixes' for windows .dll or .sys files. If you have kernel files that are damaged you must do a system file checker by typing "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt. It should repair the files, if it fails to repair the files then you should repair windows via the installation disc.

Sorry ive had to teach myself everything i know computer wise on my own, so that kinda just went *woosh* right over my head.... ive heard of kernel before no clue what it is, i didnt mess with any sys files to my knowledge, heck its just my luck that i turn on the UAC and start using a non admin account on windows cuz of all this reading i did and this serious thread that got me all spooked and now ive caught something lol.... so was it the alpha cool drivers? cuz they worked, the display was awesome till i realized i had a problem :p

Anyways i ran malwarebytes SUPERantispyware and microsoft SE all full scans and nothing showed up, just the typical cookie this potential unwanted that from firefox that i do want but i tell it to delete anyways... im about to restart cuz i wanna swap my 2 front fans which will take half a sec...

wish me luck *crosses fingers* in the meantime if i still BSOD what are my options or what should i do?

Thanks for all the info and help so far too, its much appreciated =)

And yup same BSOD what can I do? Am I better off just reinstalling windows on this other drive I've been meaning to use samsungs migration software to move to? If I do reinstall windows on another drive and wipe this one problem solved technically right? So if I did result to that how do I register windows won't it say y cd keys are already in use or somethin'? Sorry I'm used to doing the shady bootleg installs until the build before this and I bought a separate copy of windows for this build. I did it the shady way for a reason I believe is justified but it's also true to say that there really isn't any excuse, but I'm going legit now and can't afford another copy of windows.... I can still login into this PC and do everything I want but if it requires I reboot or I wanna shut down it get the BSOD

Sorry for the wall of text it's the end for my 24 hour work day and this is the last thing I wanted to find out was the issue :(

I have to admit, this is a tricky one. I've reinstalled windows on the same machine multiple times. It still works, if that's what you really want to do then go ahead. If you get anymore dump files please upload them. The kernel is basically a program built into the operating system that translates input output requests from hardware. There are two modes on the operating system, user-mode and kernel-mode. User-mode contains applications, services and the windows subsystem. Kernel-mode runs on a higher privilege level, basically anything in the kernel can access the entire operating system. Applications and other processes in user-mode basically use DLLs to translate information and send it to the kernel. If everything ran in kernel mode you would have a lot more crashes, viruses could cause a lot more havoc than what they do now.

the alpha cool display while cool i think is too much of a hassle and after whats happened ive shelved it till i decide on what to do later. Thanks for th kernel explanation, first thing i did when i encountered this problem was unplug my usb hub splitter or what ever nzxt calls it that allows for another 2 mobo usb connectors and 2 regular usb connections on top of the one it takes up. I tried em all and still didnt work out for me.

So you guys think this is a legit virus, any ideas how i caught it seems to weird of a coincidence to have have happened right with the alphacool display installation.

As for windows idk if i have to deactivate this copy before reinstaling, but i would be installing onto another ssd my 512gb samsung 840 evo, then id get what matters off the current 512gb 840(regular version) and then install my copy of win8 i have sitting on my table on this drive after wiping it. I hate having to reinstall windows.... so much work, i always forget stuff...

Every time i try to shut down to work on my fans or change something since im working on my 2nd gpu atm i get a blue screen so i got more minidumps

I'll take a look tomorrow. The thing that got me into debugging is my computer, I've had it since March 2013. It's had so many BSODs since I got it. It's driver related as it's fine at the moment. The fix I've found so far is uninstalling Nvidia Physx, the problem is I've bought a game that uses Physx... Let the games begin! I still find it unlikely that Physx can cause BSODs but if it's a device driver it can. My computer's issues have been that difficult even the manufacturers don't have any suggestions. You think of a solution and I've probably already tried it. The mystery behind BSODs in my PC has intrigued me.

I'm still positive it's virus related, I will have to check the dump files tomorrow.

Thanks, yeah it sounds pretty funky and i remember the days when phyx was a b*** but im almost sure its not that happenin again. I was actually having stability isues with audio drivers havingto reinstall gpu drivers meant uninstall sound blaster, uninstall realtek onboard audio, clean install the gpu then follow up with the realtek HID drivers then sound card drivers so i wouldnt get the failed to install HID for every HID durrin the intall and messing the install up a bit

So any news or updates?

Are u guys all sure it's a virus, no doubt?

Is it safe to assume all my other drives are safe I only use them for file storage, installers go to my download folder and if needed then a flash drive for later. The only drive that windows will mess with is the one I use for most single player games and other program files that don't need to be on the C drive to save space.

What exactly are my options at the moment, like just Irving up and installing an OS on another drive, troubleshooting the computer to find out how to remove it, saying yolo and deal with the BSOD, or giving the build a cold shower and telling it to go sit in @hotmail.com the cornet for example? :p

Also could someone give me a list of steps and or options with their steps on how I can attempt to save this build/install? Because of many reasons, doing clean win7 installs is an unbelievable amount of work for me :(

- thanks

i would say do a full virus test with the os drive and mimimal parts in the system do this without network on and if you could have a strart up scan from you virus software that will help dont forget to do back up and restore point even archive files .

I agree with scout_03. I've looked at all your dump files. They're all the same bugchecks all pointing to the libusb0.sys. It looks like a virus.
I would download malwarebytes run that. Then run your normal anti virus.

Thanks but I've already done all that I don't know how to run a virus scan on boot but I'll try a safe mode boot with a minimalist approach hardware wise and run a full scan with malwarebytes superantispyware and MS Security Essentials. Would it be unwise to run them all at the same time and if so which in what order should I run them because I've run them all as I mentioned before and told each program to remove everything it could and I'm still having the BSOD every time I try to reboot or just shutdown.

I had just pretty much figured I'd say screw it and start over with win7 on my other 840 SSD then when ready plug in the funky BSOD drive to wipe it then install win8 on it. But it couldn't hurt to run the virus scans once more, reinstalling and setting up windows 7 is quite a pain.

On a side note...
Is there anyway to create my own package install and setup I could use that would set everything the way I like it on all my builds whenever windows 7 has finished installing. For example the shortcuts on the left hand side of my win explorer window, my toolbars and start menu settings/preferences and where all my libraries default to? I love using ninite.com for software install time saving but I still have so many other things I install and settings that I have to change. It's so easy to forget some of my old settings too.
