Is my new graphics card a dud?

Hi, I'm new to making custom build PCs. I followed a guide and used their build components to make it, and the guide said there were no compatibility issues, but I am having an issue with my graphics card and I'm not sure what. Here's what I have:

Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 6300
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4GB (2 x 2GB)
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X
PSU: Corsair 430X

All cords are plugged into their proper slots. I used an adapter that came with my card to make another 6-pin PCI-e connector as my PSU came with only one. Everything powers on, but the graphics card. I was able to get it to power on for a few seconds and got it to display on my monitor, but then it went back off. Everything else turns on, but my motherboard has no onboard graphics so I cannot connect it to a monitor to try and update drivers. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated!

It spun once when the system was powered on, but quickly shut back off. The card radiates heat as if it's working, but no display and no motion with the fans.

Then it is probably broken. If you send in an RMA, they should ship a new one to you in about 2 weeks.

I filed one just a few moments ago, but they are claiming the card is out of warranty which I don't understand. I just got it a couple of weeks ago. I'll probably have to give them a call. I can try to get a replacement from where I bought it I suppose.

According to your GPU, you need a MINIMUM of 500 watt power supply. And I'm guessing your PSU only has 430.
I'm guessing the reason why it turns on then off, is because it's not getting enough power. If that is not the solution, I guess it may be broken. BUT you still need over 500 watts of a PSU.
I'm a beginner at PC hardware, so I may sound like a nub :p

Would it be my power supply causing the problem? There was an instance where the CPU fan didn't work and the fans on the graphics card did, but I haven't been able to recreate that. Do you think I should get a more powerful supply?

I filed a refund request with the seller I bought the card from, but likely won't know until tomorrow which direction to go.

I will be calling them today as well as contacting the person I bought the card from. Thank you both for your help.
