I have a Sony VPCEB42FM and it currently has an i3 380m G1. I am really wanting to squeeze a little bit more performance out of my laptop and was just wondering if anyone had some advice for me. I recently installed a new SSD and it looks like the only thing else to do is maybe this CPU upgrade. I see there are several choices like te i7 640m. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That's what I meant to say, haha

Not an entirely true statement - some are soldered (BGA chips) and some are socketed (PGA chips). The particular one the OP has is actually a PGA and can be replaced.

However, OP, replacing the chip is probably not a possibility. Laptops are built to specific tolerances that can hardly be overreached. You MIGHT (emphasis on MIGHT) be able to upgrade, but the highest processor you're able to swap will probably not be worth the effort. In other words, it's not worth the trouble for the negligible boost you'll gain.

I have had several people tell me it would be a good idea. That's why I posted it on here to get some second opinions. I was curious if my motherboard would handle the replacement. Thanks for your input guys.
