new to computers and graphics card

Hey so, i installed a graphics card into my computer then when i turn it on it says theres no signal on the monitor so i disconnected the graphics card and turned it on and everythings fine. I need help
 
on the gpu there going to be power plug ports..some have one six pin some have two. make sure there all filled.

as you can see this high end gpu has a six and eight pin. as you did not put the model of the card i just grabbed a image.
on the new card like in the image plug the video cable into the card if the card connected right you see the mb boot screen.
some newer motherboard have video chipset built in. if the system is posting the onboard may be the first video output.
you have to change it in the bios (primany display) from auto to peg/pci.
