Hi Guys,

I seem to have a weird problem that i can't get to the bottom of.

Over the last 3 months or so I've been slowly building up my gaming rig, but recently I've started to encounter problems with my PSU's. Over the last 2 weeks I've had two die on me with exactly the same symtoms. I've been playing some very cpu heavy games (ARMA 2, Dayz mod and Guild Wars 2) and after maybe an hour or so of playing my computer shuts off and then won't turn back on again. When I check the computer I get a strong heat smell and the PSU is very hot. When the first one died I thought it was to general overheating problem so I moved my GPU into in better positions as it has 2 fans and I bought a Noctua NH-U12P SE2 heatsink as my CPU temp was in the low 80's when using the intel stock heatsink. I then replaced the PSU with exactly the same PSU (not my finest hour) and of course the same thing happened a week later.

I've checked the GPU fans and the heatsink are working properly with SpeedFan and since I’ve had the Noctua my CPU temp has dropped by about 50 degrees celsius so that doesn't seem to be the problem. The PSU fans were both working before the computer shuts off but I haven't tried using a different power outlet. Could this be the problem?

My Rig specs are -

Asus Z87-A Motherboard
Intel Core i7-4770 3400 MHz Haswell
8GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 Twin Razor
1 Regular SATA 500GB HD
2 92mm High Performance fans (Noctua)
1 92mm LED fan
LED front display
Big case with 3 air vents (Good airflow)

I believe my PSU is 600W not sure though.

Thanks for any responses,

Slocos

Not sure what the exact brand is but it was only £24.99 so it's definitely a cheap one.

I'm getting a new one today which is a little more pricey so I'll let you guys know if it fails on me again.

Thanks for your help
