Hello everyone,

I'm facing a weird problem from this morning.
I have 2 Harddisks of Segate (1Tb & 160gb) in my computer from a long time.

One of the harddisk(160gb) isn't being recognized by the computer now. The 160gb HDD is nearly 6-7yrs old and all i hear after connecting it ,is the clicking noise. However the main problem is,if i try to boot up the computer when both of them are connected, the dos prompt opens up stating "no bootable device found." I'm not even able to see the BIOS screen.

When i disconnected the faulty hdd,the computer boots up normally.

Why is this happening ? and also is their any way to fix the hdd ? Tried with SEATOOLS but it is not able to detect the hdd either.

Thanks in advance.

Well done for backing up properly - so many people don't...

So with the dead HD removed your PC runs fine? Then you're good to go... just get a new hard drive (if you need it) and problem solved

Sounds like the 160Gb drive died - your computer than tries to use it during boot, can't read it, and so stops the boot. Take the drive out. There is likey no way to fix that hard drive, but there are companies that will be able to rescue most if not all your data, though it probably won't be cheap.

Hard drives are supposed to have a reliable working life of 4 to 5 years, so keeping one going for 7 is asking for trouble really.... I hope you had a good backup strategy in place...?

Yup,I had a backup of most of the files on that hdd if not all.Used it for Downloads only :na:.
So, only few unfinished torrent download files are gone, nothing else.:)
