I'm planning on upgrading my rig but I'm stuck on whether getting an air cooler or a liquid cooler for my CPU.By the way I'm also getting a Sapphire R9 270x Toxic GPU which features an open-air cooler.

So my questions are-
1-Will I be better off with an air cooler for my OCed cpu?If so,will the gpu's open-air cooler interfere with my cpu's temperatures?

2-Is a air cooler better than a,or,same(in terms of heat dissipation and noise levels)as a liquid cooler?

All suggestions/advises/opinions are most welcomed.;_;

2-Is a air cooler better than a,or,same(in terms of heat dissipation and noise levels)as a liquid cooler?

^^With that, if you are talking about those pre-build liquid coolers like corsair/cooler master/thermaltake ect..then Yes.

Go for a high end air cooler like the Noctua NH-D14/BeQuiet! Drak rock Pro 2/Thermaltake FRIO Extreme, and they will perform so close to the liquid coolers it's unbelievable but for much less of a price. + Much less problems and hassles that come with pre-built liquid coolers.

The high end air coolers will actually perform better then most of those pre-build liquid coolers, and for the ones that beat them, it is barely much more. Stick to the air coolers as they do a much better job.

Thank you for clarifying the situation.But are air coolers more noisy than pre-built water coolers at full fan speed?

air coolers are actually very quiet and in most cases are quieter then Liquid coolers, but the pre-built liquid coolers have fans as well, most of the ones used are noise makers, so that will put the high end air coolers in front.

As said above, an H100i (for example) will perform similarly to the big air fans like the Noctua NH-D14. The H100i is more expensive, especially if you swap out the fans for quiet versions like I did. It ends up being substantially more money for about the same performance.

The thing that made me do it was aesthetics. I have an open window case and I LOVE how the H100i looks in there.

So, if you want to save money, stick with air coolers. They perform about the same, and are often quieter.

Here is a good read: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/h100i-elc240-seidon...

Dear,

First of all, All coolers are not silent :) .

I generally recommends air cooler. My preference is with Noctua Nh-D14 and NH-U14S. They are very powerful, effective and quite quiet coolers in the aftermarket coolers.

With AIO Liquid coolers, there is noise element from fans as well as pump but not all are loudy. There is a risk of leakage as well.

Noctua series coolers are the best choice one has got. But these air coolers are huge in size and gives RAM space clearance issue along with the PC Case/Chassis compatibility issue.

Noctua series cooler [NH-D14/NH-U14S] have noise level of 19dBA which is very good. Almost quiet.

Also,I've just found this while scouring through some air coolers.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/5235/sapphire-vapor-x-...

This Vapor chamber technology used in this cooler has proven itself quite effective and reliable,but I'm doubting its ability in cooling cpus.

I have a Noctua NH-D14 for reassurance, its a great CPU cooler and did much research before getting one. But it's huge and will take up space over some ram slots.

So unfortunately,no one sells the Thermaltake FRIO Extreme,only the Advance and OCK series are available,and the Noctua and BeQuiet! one are out of my budget.;_;

So,my options will be-
1-Thermaltake FRIO OCK
2-Sapphire Vapor-X CPU cooler
Which one would you guys recommend the most?Please let me know.

Thanks.

Overall, it is a decent cooler. Check this thing: 59.54 CFM @ 1600RPM. It will be noisy at this level. If you've budget I would still recommend NH-U14S

Comments were on Cooler Master cooler. Recommendation was for Noctua NH-U14S. Sorry for confusion.

It's ok.But what of the thermaltake FRIO OCK?
BTW,the noctua ones are over my budget.
