Should the bitcoin madness ever end and prices become rational again, I'm planning to build a new gaming PC which includes the Fractal Define R4 and the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x OC.

However, I've heard some complain of the Sapphire's long length making it difficult to fit the card in the case. Can anyone tell me for certain that this card will fit in the Fractal Design R4?

Thanks!

The length of the card is 31cm. (source: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/R9_290X_Tri-X_OC/3.html)

The case supports cards up to 29,5cm with the top HDD cage installed and cards up to 43cm with the drive cage removed.
- Graphics cards up to 295mm in length with the top HDD cage installed
- Top HDD cage (5 trays total) can be rotated 90 degrees or removed for additional airflow or to accommodate long graphic cards up to 430mm in length

This means you would have to remove the drive cage to install this card in this case, but it does fit in this case. This would allow for 3 HDD's to be installed instead of 3+5, however I...

pfunkmd,

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. I don't have either component and don't expect to until I've placed my order and it's delivered to me in the mail. I've been to Sapphire's website to view the card specs but I wasn't able to find information about the physical length of the card. If you have a resource for this, please post.

I expect finding the information I want to know about the case will be even more difficult because I don't think I'm going to be able to make the determination based on typical case specs. That said, I doubt I'll use all the bays and I'm certainly handy enough to cut away metal or plastic to make room for a longer video card but I obviously don't want to cut away something critical or essential to the case. If that's the situation, I probably need to shop for a different case.

For these reasons I was hoping there would be someone who knows the case well enough to address my concerns.

This would allow for 3 HDD's to be installed instead of 3+5, however I believe there is space behind the motherboard to install 2 SSDs; so with this card installed 3 HDDs + 2 SSDs can be installed in this case.
