Loud noise at cold boot pc startup? Problem Worsened.

so ever since a year ago my pc has been making a loud noise at startup. I found out it was definitely the optical drive as i felt the vibrations most from there. The only way i found to fix it was bang on the top of the optical drive of my case. But i would like to disable the optical drive from booting so i don't have to hear a loud noise every time. Can anyone tell me a way to fix this? I don't have the money to go out and buy a new optical drive atm
UPDATE:due to the grinding of my old dvd drive, I believe it was actually my HDD.Today windows was telling me my hdd is going to fail soon, and i found out it had to do with bad sectors. The grinding sound was comming from my hdd and causing it to break.

You could take it apart clean and lube the gears, joints etc.
Or
Mount it with rubber washers to dissipate the noise.
Or
You can saftely disconnect (power cable) the drive and run the computer, however to use it you will have to replug and reboot.
Or
Buy a new one :)

Yeah, Just unplug the power to it. If it really bugs you either its not installed right, or its defective.

Couple possibilities... the screws are loose and its a vibration noise or its defective over time. Simply unplug it, If its a dvd writer drive, those are only 20 bux. Slap a new one in.

If vibration from spinning up:

Just take the CD/DvD out of the optical drive. Normally they only vibrate when there is a disc inside. If it spins up with no disc, the reciprocating mass of just the motor and spindle is so much less that when a CD/DvD is present that it is nearly inaudible.

If a grinding noise:

Something in the head actuator or drive tray gears is jammed or damaged or reading a false position state. You'll most likely need to disconnect and replace it.
