A better motherboard for gaming

I just wanted to know which is better Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 Socket 1150 or Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 Socket 1150 with processor i5 4670 and Gtx 760 4gb ddr5 ?

You need Z87 chipset with "K' processor, if you plan on just gaming get cheaper B85 with powerful video card, and if you plan overclocking get "K" (4670-K) procesoor with Z87 chipset mobo

For i5 4670, go for GA-B85-HD3 because this CPU is locked hence can't be overclocked beyond its max turbo. However, if you are planning to get overclockable CPU later on then get GA-Z87-HD3.

Z87 is for overclocking potential.

So you mean if I don't need to overclock I go for the b85 and if I want to overclock I go for the z78 and that is the only difference that will show an effect on gaming ??

So, if you are not overclocking then you don't need expensive CPU and mobo. Go for cheap ones with good performance. Otherwise, get the overclocking enabled CPU and mobo and reap the benefits.

The reason I am asking is that I don't want to take a step and buy the B85 and then wish I would have bought the z87 considering the gaming part soo you say that I should go with the z78

Z87 is meant for performance thru overclocking, H87 is for regular desktop consumers/gamers. Both chipsets are high end and support gaming. If you are thinking of going to buy Z87 series mobo for gaming only, there is noting wrong with this thinking but then you won't utilize actual or full potential of Z87 mobo.

At the end decide which one based on your budget. If you've budget, go for Z87.

Ohhh, btw Broadwell is rumored coming in Q2, 2014. But good thing is that this (z97) chipset will have support for 1150 socket CPUs.
