My rig:
Motherboard- M5A97 LE R2.0
CPU- fx-8320
GPU- gtx 770 4gb with acx cooling
RAM- 8gb of Vengence RAM
PSU- CX600 by Corsair
Case- NZXT Switch 810
HDD- .5 tb (I think by Sandisk)

I am really liking both of these coolers. I have some concerns about if either of these coolers would clear my ram. Which one of these coolers would fit on to my motherboard better and clear my ram better? Which ever cooler fits my build better, will probably be the deciding factor in which cooler I choose

Either one of these two coolers are fantastic (get the one thats is on sale). Also if you are really worried about the ram cleareance, purchase a low profile ram (Crucial makes these as well, with great warranty)

BTW Do you check that PSU is iffy (i do own a CX600M which i like but i haven't put it to heavy use as of yet). Try a maker like XFX, Seasonic or a HIgher end Corsair (HX).

Best Luck

They are both fantastic coolers. Don't think the NH D14 will allow those tall heatspreaders. Phanteks might be a bit forgiving but even then, there is a high probability that you would have to use the rear and middle fan slots and not the first one to get them cleared. I know you might be sold on those dual towers but I'd consider the NH U14S. Great RAM compatibility and a great performer. Cheers.

Corsair Vengeance is pretty tall, and getting a dual-tower cooler to fit with them is more than a challenge. Best case scenario, you may be forced to move a fan upwards on one of the heatsinks.

You may want to consider a tall, wide, single-tower solution, like the Thermalright True Spirit 140, or the Noctua NH-U14S.

This may be a dumb question, but could I take off the big red heat spreader to make the ram shorter?

Is the Phanteks PH-TC12DX the "little brother" of the larger cooler? does it still provide quiet and efficient cooling? Would it fit better according to my ram?

yes, the tc12dx allows for most tall ram to fit on most motherboards. search ph-tc12dx and look at more pictures.

as far as performance, according to the reviews i see, this is a nice little cooler for those who either have ram clearance issues or a smaller case but want to get good performance without breaking the bank or moving to more complicated water solutions.

Do you think this would be better than the phantek cooler? I have heard from some sources that phantek cooler mounted on am3+ mounts make the fans point vertically rather than horizontally, would this be a problem?

I just want to get a cooler that will last for a couple of years. If I ever got a new mobo (probably next upgrade after psu) I would already have a good cooler to oc with.
