My motherboard MSI 785GM-E51 has Realtek chipset, but when I open up device manage to see what audio drivers are installed I see that there is VIA High Definition drivers installed.

Is this the same thing now ? I remember that Realtek drivers had it's own sound manager, but I don't have anything like that.

URL to my mobo: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/785GME51.html#/?div=Detail

The thing is I tried, but it still recognizes the drivers as VIA. I tried to install Realtek drivers on top of VIA one's. After that I tried to first unninstal VIA then install Realtek. Nothing seemed to work.

I am quite sure, because the system registers the mic. However when I try to record something, there's no sound.

One interesting thing is, if I turn on the mic boost, the bar that shows microphone's activity, suddenly springs to life, as if some sounds are made.

Everything works fine when plugged into back panel.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, that the mic is part of headset. And one more thing - just now I connected my old mic to the same jack , and that mic works(!), so I guess the problem is in the microphone. But how can the mic, which works great when plugged in the rear, not work when plugged into front panel?
