Hi There.

I am after a new graphics card for my PC but I am not quite sure still which one to get whats better than a GTX 550ti. Better in performance.

Also would I have to upgrade my PSU if I did get a new graphics card suggestions are welcome.

PC specs are:

Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core I7-2600K @ 3.40GHZ
8.00 GB memory
GTX 550ti 1024mb
1TB hard drive
power supply i have in now is a 500w

Many Thanks.

500W is more than enough power for most mainstream GPUs. Especially now that GPUs are more power conscious and take much less power than the good 'ol 400 and 500 series did.

To give a straight answer then we need to know how much money we are talking about, but to give a comparison: Moving from a 550ti to a 750ti is almost a 2x performance increase.

I was going to get this case http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-Z11-Plus-Installation-Anti-Vibration/dp/B007C008L2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1393342347&sr=8-2&keywords=pc+cases

But one other person said I did not need to and just to put the money towards the graphics card instead, The amount I was going to pay first for graphics card was £135.00 but the case was £60.00.

so round about £200ish.

I was going to get this graphics card but someone told me that it was not much better than my GTX 550ti http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0099AOAUI/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1393342401&sr=8-1 But I am not sure on what to go on still.

I just upgraded from a MSI 550Ti to a EVGA 760 OC. Picked it up for $250 and it was a big preformance upgrade.

I did have some PSU issues however. My PSU was a 600w and had two 12v rails so I figured I'd be fine. After install I had issues with stability, the card wouldn't power up most of the time and even when it would I was getting instant restarts when launching a game and the card would fail again. My old card worked fine when put back in so I decided it was a PSU issue.

My PSU was pretty old and the 12v rails were only 20a so I picked up another 600w bronze rated PSU with a single 43a 12v rail and haven't had a issue since (about 5 days so far).

Just something to keep in mind when shopping for a new card.

so would a 500W power supply run all my parts in my PC including a new graphics card or would it just be enough to run the graphics card by itself then need more to run other parts?

Thanks for that Jake. I will keep that in mind. just to be safe if i do require buying a ew one im going to get a one over 30a maby over 80+ just to be even safer in the near future upgrades.

I'm not quite sure what my power supply is tbh like if it is past the 20a or not, I'm going to have to take it out of my case and check on that. I got it in with the PC I got from ebay.

maby I will get these three either GTX 660, GTX 750 or GTX 760.

is hd radeon better then GTX or nnvidia or are they the same someone recommended R9 270x but im not quite sure witch is good

Many Thanks for your replys to all of you really helpful.

Radeon cards right now are a bit overpriced due to bitcoin mining. They aren't really competitive for gaming right now until that settles down a bit, especially on the high end. But normally Radeon cards are actually cheaper than nVidia while offering similar performance. Hopefully this will be true again before long.

On the side of your PSU there will be a chart listing how much amperage you have on the different connections. More likely than not then you are fine... just better to be safe than sorry.

Ya, it is generally best to find what performance level you want, and then get the most modern card that can do that. I was thinking about jumping on the GTX760 myself... but I am not in a rush so I am going to wait until the end of the year and get something from the 800 series if they are not terribly overpriced.

yeah that's true. I'm only upgrading for the GTA IV so I can get fully modded without it crashing with a graphics mod in. But I'm just keeping it safe by upgrading to a good graphics card so my 550ti don't burn out with all them in it and get the best for my money aswell.

Yeah if you already have a good one then no point in upgrading to soon if there's a new one due out. but make sure you read the reviews just in case if a older one turns out to be better then it in performance wise, chances is it will be better but better be safe then sorry really.

I don't think ill be upgrading until bout 3 years or something by then the 1000's will be out cant waste money these days lol :D

Would i be better off upgrading my power supply if i was going to get the GTX 760 just to be safe you reckon?
