I'm in the process of slowly upgrading my system and i was looking at either of the above processors for gaming and was wondering if, other than the frequency, there was any real difference between the two. Or is anyone has any better AM3+ or even Intel solutions. I will be purchasing a new motherboard to compliment the CPU so socket type isn't restricted to any one in particular.

This is my current setup, but again, it's slowly changing:
OS: Win7 64bit ultimate
PROC: AMD Phenom II X6 1075T 3.49 GHz (unlocked)
MB: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX
HD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 ST1000DM005/HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB DDR3 1600
GC: EVGA 780 SC 3 GB
PS: Corsair TX Series CMPSU-650TX 650W

Those are great games, I played Far Cry 3 in all three modes (from normal to "Insane" mode); personally I think it was the best game of the series. I'm sure you'll enjoy it (the hunting missions are great)

About the processor(s), I'm glad you've found numerous reviews (pros and cons) for the CPUs, TH is a great source for said information; if you can, let us know what you decide, and good luck! :)

Well i haven't set a budget just yet, but the 9590 would probably be my maximum. So no more than $300. If i could find something with equivalent gaming performance that is cheaper i would be more than willing to do that, as well. I was thinking about going with the ASUS Crosshair V if i went with the 8350. But if anyone has any other CPU suggestions i would be more than happy to hear them. Anything under $250 preferably, $300 max.

Just the CPU. Alright, so i would probably wanna stick with the i5. You say that will preform better than 9590, then by extension the 8350? Alright. Is there a significant difference in performance between the i5 and i7? There's a $110 price difference, but does that really translate to $110 worth of a performance boost?

Yes, better than both the 9590 and 8350 in gaming.

An i7 is just the i5 with hyperthreading - most games don't make use of the hyperthreaded threads, but some recent ones are starting to use them (BF3, BF4, Crysis 3, not many more than that ATM), not to mention productivity apps that can make use of them. I'd expect the i7 to last around a year longer than the i5 (high-end performance/capability) IF multi-threading catches on, which it may or may not do. Whether that's worth $110 is up to you.

Since you live in the US you may have microcenter available to you, they seem to have a lot of good in-store deals, you may be able to get a 4770k cheap.

Which games are you looking to play?

Hi! I suggest going with the FX-8350, it's had a great track record and it's easier on your pocket. If you just do a quick search you'll find numerous reviews, and even comparisons between the 8350 and comparable Intel's processors. But overall, you'll save some cash if you go with the FX-8350. Lots of etailers like TigertDirect, NewEgg, Micro Center and Amazon are offering the processor or processor bundled with motherboards or components right now, here are some links:

I don't think budget is an issue here. Intel is king for gaming performance. I can speak from personal experience that an FX 8320 @ 4.4GHz was still too slow.

I"ll be playing a wide range of titles, i play the Crysis series, plan on grabbing the new Thief, Titanfall is going ot be on my roster soon, as well as a slew of other titles such as Far Cry 3/Blood Dragon, Dead Space series, most new releases as well. I play quite a bit. I've at least narrowed it down to either the I5 4760 or the FX 8350. I've been seeing a lot of pros and con's to either, honestly. Though it seems like the Intel CPU runs a little smoother than the AMD in most operations.

After much research i think i'm going to go with the i5 4670K, seeing as how the difference (for gaming) between that and the i7 seems to be minimal at best. And for the extra hundred in savings, i could put that towards an eventual second video card. Plus, Microcenter has it on sale at the moment i think I'll jump on it sooner rather than later. Thansk for all the feedback everyone, i really appreciate it!
