Skyrim lag in cities

So I've recently started playing Skyrim, but I can't get the most out of it because of the lag! I don't think I should lower my settings since I heard that my GPU should run it smoothly and the game also automaticaly set itself on high. Anyway, here are my specs:

Intel Core i7 920 2.67 GHz 8 CPUs
Nvidia GeForce GTX 275 1 GB
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 1680x1050
6 GB RAM

I'll be happy to provide any further informations!

go there, scroll all the way to the very bottom left and download the enb. read the directions at the top for installing it. it will manage your vram and you can use the built in injected smaa which is much less taxing on your system than msaa. you can leave all the other graphical mods off if you'd like.
OK, here's the thing. If you are trying to play Skyrim, on anything more than medium to high, with any of the later graphics "addons" at anything above 1680x1050 then I am sorry to say you are in for a very, very rubbish experience. If this is the case, then you have two options; one, you get a better graphics card or two, you turn the settings down.

EDIT: The reason being that Skyrim and its addons are VERY video ram intensive and will suck down that 1GB of yours in the blink of an eye.

Sorry, could you be more specific? Do you mean ''texture quality''? It's on high.

Yes, I tried playing on medium but still no succes.

More info: I also have Vsyinc and triple buffering on and I disabled the Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filetring features from Skyrim but it's still laggy.

Unfortunately, I don't use any addons because of the lag.

Honestly, and much as you don't want to hear this, you're going to have to either reduce your settings or upgrade your card. There is no substitute for the lack of VRAM or the lack of sheer processing power in that GTX 270. Your best bet, if you can't afford a brand new card would be to see about getting a secondhand GTX 560 from Ebay.

Do I really have to do that? Here it says the recommended GPU is GTX 260 and mine's 275 (not 270)

Sorry, forgot the link

This topic is not closed! I accidentally pressed the "pick as solution" button. I'm sorry, you are still free to post!
Since I'm not on the PC right now I'll update you later about the outcome. For now I'll check Admiral Donut's link and nikoli's link.

Don't worry Epic, we're still here :)

Sorry you didn't get the result you were hoping for Epic, I know how much it sucks. Like I said earlier though, if you can save a little money here and there (if you are on a tight budget) you can pick up a GTX 550 2gb card for about $50/£55/€58 from Ebay.
