So I bought a new PC from a friend, tested the PC at his house, everything worked great, brought the PC home, tried to connect it to a monitor but I had no display. I tried to connect it to my dad's monitor, no display, I reset the PC and the display came up on dads monitor. I then connected his monitor back to his PC, it didn't work. Afterwards, I tried to connect the monitor that didn't work on my PC and it worked on his PC.

I am utterly confused. Why did:

1. my monitor not work on my PC? Everything was connected correctly, I checked it multiple times.
2. his monitor work on my PC after I rebooted the system, but after I connected it back to his PC not work?
3. why does my monitor now work on his PC?
4. when I tried connecting his monitor back to my PC again, it didn't display anything again even after a restart.

I'm willing to answer all questions if anything isn't explained well enough, and I apologize in advance if it isn't. I hope someone out there can help me, I'd sure appreciate your help.

make sure you are plugging it into the right port. this sounds stupid, but there are most likley multiple ports you can plug it into. so, idk if you have vga, dvi, or hdmi, but check to see if there are multiple ports you can plug it into and try different ones.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried connecting it to both VGA ports ( I have two on my PC ), it doesn't change anything, in other words, it IS correctly plugged in.

hmmm do you know which one is the right one? it should be the lower one, and when plugged in, does the monitor say anything? and does the pc power on and stay on at your house?

The monitor doesn't say anything, it's just black, but when I unplug the cable it says that there is no signal / no connection.

and the pc works fine? hmmm double check the connections inside of your pc... all of them. if that doesnt work, test your vga cable. try your cable with a different pc. other than that, idk what could be wrond other than there is a defect inside of your pc.

Yes, the PC works fine because:

1. It was working at his place
2. It worked the first time I connected dad's monitor to the PC.
3. Checked the connections already.
4. It has nothing to do with the VGA cable since it was working on dad's PC.

well, if you pc works with other monitors, then it is either incompatible with that monitor is the monitor is defective in some way.

I'm currently at my moms place and will check the PC with dad's monitor again, I bought a new one for him ( didn't do a nice thing for him in a while so yeah ). I'll let you know if that works, that'll be in 2-3 days though. Thank you for the responses. I appreciate it!
