I recently built my first desktop (intended as a gaming pc) and can't get it to boot. When I try an boot it everything starts and runs for around 10 seconds, then shuts off for a few seconds and repeats. At the same time the system speaker beeps repeatedly in short, quick beeps for the duration that the system runs (around 50 beeps). I unplugged everything except the mobo, psu, and cpu an it still didn't work (an still beeped). The only time it stops beeping is when the cpu isn't in the socket or isn't pressed down an locked in. I'm new to hardware so I have no idea what is wrong. The psu passed the paperclip trick, but seemed to me like it was acting weird. Please help?

It runs for 10 seconds. I've tried single sticks of ram, switched the sockets they were in; pretty much everything that you could check I did. I'm pretty sure that it is the CPU. Since you mentioned that it could be that, it gave me a second opinion. I bought it from SuperBiiz, an Intel Core I3-3240 LGA1155. I'm going to get a replacement and see if it works. If not, I don't know what i'll do. Thanks for the reply!

Does any of this match your beeps?

No, I don't think so. It just beeps repeatedly for the 10 seconds that it stays on. I *tried* to count the beeps, and it beeped around 52 times I think. Then it'll shut down for around 3 seconds and and do it all over again. Like I said, I'm going to send it back in and get a replacement.

alright, but 52 times in 10 seconds.... Thats about 10 beeps per second...

EDIT: Looked it up some more and it seems to be loose cables.
