have a gateway GT5694 (6) years old. Quad 9100e AMD processor...300w psu. Cant seem to play Day Z decently. Settings down to the max. Oh yeah 4 gigs of RAM. Want to buy a new GPU for it tho to help get me out of the cellar but am thoroughly out of touch with what to do. Would a new 300w GPU be fine and which one for my rig? Should I upgrade to 400w? I know the computer is crap...got a few hundred to spend

it wont matter if you upgrade to 400w, the bios would fail to register and graphics card from 2013 or 2014. The bios is just too old. At 6 years I think its time to let go and get another computer

your gonna need more powerful psu. And yeah your system will bottleneck a high end GPU. Aim for a more mediocre one.

well yeah of course. I'm not worried about a top of the line GPU. I am looking for something I'm sure is a few years old...but does anyone have recommendations?

Those would work with what I have? Could you narrow it a tad more?

Ok first your gonna have to get a better power supply 500w. I'm sure the one you have is bare minimum for you system to function. That's always the case with pre-built. Right now it looks like you got the integrated radeon hd 3200. I would say go for the R7 260X That'll give you a decent boost in Games compared to what your using. So Corsair CX 500 and R7 260X would be a good cheap upgrade. about 150-165 dollars combined

The R7 260X is about $100 and PSU around 50-60

AMD Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card. That one? I see a few different brands...saphire,XFX, ect...but they are noticeably cheaper and I guess that would mean an inferior product.

So this card would fit into my case no prob? It would hook up right?

No no Sapphire has got to be one of the best. Besides that you just want this computer for a couple more years right? Like you don't want to spend a lot on something that will be obsolete. I would get the cheapest card you can find. Sapphire, XFX, Asus, Gigabyte, Club, MSI are all good brands. Just remember that it's not them that makes the card it would be AMD Radeon that makes it and those companies throw on their take on cooling solutions. Oh and yeah it will fit. It's a relatively small card plus you have the PCI-E 16x slot.
