I bought a new Samsung 840 Evo to put in my laptop (I bought a carriage to replace my disk drive since this is a laptop and I still want to use my 1TB WD Black drive as well) and the new SSD isn't showing up in Disk Management, and my BIOS isn't any good and it doesn't display my drives. I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit and I have a HP Pavillion DV6z-7000 with a AMD A10-4600m with 6GB of RAM and a Radeon 7770m 2GB GPU, if it helps any. Thanks.

The BIOS is reaaaaally simple. It literally just lists the CPU, and booting sequences and priorities.

Well it wont till you force a refresh in windows disk managment.

Click on action and rescan for disks.
The drive base list needs to be updated first.
It should find the Evo 840, and add it to the virtual disk list.
Simply right click on it and format to Ntfs or Gpt file format.

I've tried the refresh option, and the rescan for disks option, still nothing.

You have to partition the drive first, which I cannot at this point do.

No, I installed the samsung magician software but it doesn't see any SSD's connected. I'd imagine I have to partition it first before Samsung Magician sees it.

have you try to tweak some BIOS setting ? like the AHCI, SATA or something like that ??

You still using your HDD in a Caddy , right ? so this means that the SSD is in the PORT 0.
Do you try to update your BIOS ?

My BIOS literally just lists the specs, and system time. It's reallllllly simple. How do I update my BIOS?

A screenshot of your BIOS might help here.

I am literally in the same boat as you: got a brand new Samsung 840 Evo (500 GB), put it in my brand new ASUS G750JX (which already has a 750 GB HDD with Win 8.1); it isn't showing up in the device manager, samsung magician, or on my computer. I'm going to buy a USB to SATA adpater tomorrow to see if it can detect it that way.

I went into my BIOS like everybody suggested, but that place confuses the hell out of me. What am I looking for in there? There was nothing that said Samsung or anything of that like.
