I have an HP Envy Touchsmart M7-j010dx i7 with 16gb ram and 2 hdds. The one that came with it which is a 1TB drive that I use for my files (Model number: hgst hts541010a9e680) and an SSD that I installed myself which is used to run windows 8.

2days ago my computer stopped working and it wouldn't boot anymore. I went through a lot just to recover but now, my 1TB hard drive is not detected by windows and I wasn't able to back up my files beforehand. I download Seatools and ran the tests. Everything passed, I got absolutely no errors. I'm not sure what this means and how to fix it. I'd appreciate some help!

You are using the wrong diagnostic software. HGST is a subsidiary of western digital. They are usually of low quality and do not have dedicated diagnostic software. You're best bet would be to use western digital data lifeguard and hope that works with these drives. Otherwise I would not expect much luck with one of these drives.

Thanks for the advice! I went ahead and rescanned using data lifeguard like you said and also HGST's diagnostic software and both passed the tests no problem! ... Is there any way I can recover the files on it and get it to work again?

If it passed the tests I'm not ready to call it a bad drive. First, if you can, swap out the drive's sata cable with one you know works. In addition to that you can switch with sata port it's plugged into (of course if you can on that machine).

If none of the above works try using the drive on another system. If the other system has an issue with detection, you know the drive is faulty.

It was not detected in other system either. But It always passes the tests, and I'm still able to see the amount of free space remaining and it is the correct amount I remember. I'm having so many different problems since this crash!!! its really bugging me. I'm left with yet another dead drive

If it's not detected in the other system then it's defective. If you can ship it back to the manufacturer(for a replacement) or return it to the store, I would.
