Help Overclocking E7400

Hey guys...I need some help overclocking my intel Core 2 duo E7400....I overclocked to 3.00ghz but the temps were really high..like when i ran prime95 the temps went upto 100 degrees and im running stock cooling..so any help would be aprreciated

Intel Core 2 duo E7400
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 F14 Bios
6GB Ram
Asus Hd 7790
Amacrox 550w PSU

If you're overheating on a .2 gig overclock on that CPU, you need a better cooler or you'll damage the CPU. Don't overclock till you get a better cooler. You're looking at less than a 10% overclock though, you won't see that much difference in performance.

First recommendation: replace the stock cooler. The stock cooler is good enough for running the processor at its default settings, however when you overclock, the stock cooler just can't handle the increased heat load.

OK but there are so many people with stock coolers who have overclocked their cpu....and if i do what should i do next?

Those who have used the stock cooler while overclocking have either not overclocked very far or have been extremely lucky.

I have the Hyper 212 Plus on my desktop's I5-3570K overclocked to 4.2 GHz (from 3.4 GHz), and the temperature stays around 60 C under load. The Evo version has a better contact surface, which helps with cooling.

The ones you have posted are similar in design to the stock cooler, and perform about the same.

I cant afford that right now and im looking to overclock my cpu to reduce a bit of the bottleneck with my gpu
