How big a jump is DVI/HDMI over VGA?

I have a 23 inch Syncmaster monitor, and never realized it was using a VGA cable (has port for HDMI as well) all this while.

Got my new GPU as well, but that doesn't have a HDMI port.

Just wondering, how much better is HDMI/DVI over VGA? Is it worth getting a converter for either my monitor or GPU?

I don't feel VGA is bad (never bothered me), but I'm curious to know how big a jump the other two are over it.

theres quite a big difference in terms of actual visuals, digital signal over dvi / hdmi is much more crisp and HD looking, compared to vga which is more blurry and not crisp.

my experience of using a vga monitor for years and finally upgrading to a digital signal

no difference really... if you had a 120/144hz monitor, you would have to use a dual link dvi cable, or hdmi 1.3, but with a std 1080p monitor @ 60hz, you will get the exact same experience.

well not quite the case with analog vga there's a good chance that digital signals will look a bit better, with analog signals unlike digital you can experience picture quality degradation if there are disturbances or the cable is bad, have seen it, and hdmi has 3d

Cemerian knows a bit more than me.. i used to use a vga cable once, and i didnt notice anything different when i changed over... I feel better using a dvi cable myself, because it is much thicker and i presume better shielded

Hi guys. I just updated from VGA to DVI-HDMI cable. I notice ZERO difference after using a 1920x1080 display for 2.5 yrs on a VGA. So I suppose the difference is grossly over-stated.
