I really need help here guys and I will try to be short!!! I have been planning on buying a new CPU for my computer for a while so that my gaming experience can be better like for MMORPG and FPS online games while avoid having to buy a new motherboard. My mother board is currently a Hewlett Packard Model 0B4Ch/ Intel X58 express/ LGA1366. I have been doing my research and shopping and I found some i7 4-core LGA1366 but I want to be sure that it will be compatible. What other specifications and information do I need in order to know which CPU would work correctly for my Mobo? Thank you so much if you took the time and consideration to help me out, I really appreciate it because this has been driving me crazy!!!

Current Rig:
HP Z400 Workstation(lowest end model)
6ram
EVGA GTX 760 (replacement/upgrade/Obviously not originally from PC)
Intel Xeon W3503

(On a Tight Budget of $200 at most)

Solution
problem with your workstation motherboard, is that the only CPU's in the supported list are Xeon, which may mean that putting in a i7 may not work at all.

I would look into a B85 motherboard and an Intel i5, that would be around $300 or under but it is much more worth it.

Hi,
I would say just wait a little bit longer and add $100 more to your $200 budget and get Haswell I5 and decent H87, B85 or Z87 Motherboard. The Lga 1366 CPU's even the i7's (i7 920, i7 940, i7 950 and i7 960)will be outperformed by i5 SandyBridge or IvyBridge. Lga 1366 CPU's are pretty expensive right now and doesn't worth the upgrade. That is my opinion. Cheers

Alright I will! I wanted to avoid a new motherboard for costly reasons but I will look into it if it means a much better computer! And can I just change my motherboard without a problem? Will it mess with my OS and other components that I should look out for?

it shouldn't do, just make sure that if your current HDD is SATA III/II ect, that the motherboard MUST have that port otherwise it won't work. I would suggest that you backup your data before hand in case you lose it, but it may still boot with your data still on there.

Alright will do. thanks a lot! More help then I could have asked for. I guess dimensions on a motherboard are something to look out for too right? like will it even fit in my case and stuff?
