Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum,

I have an Alienware Aurora R3 with an 875W psu and i7-2600K.
I've bought a Sapphire R9 280X Toxic, that is giving me a lot of graphic problem (and I'm not the only one...) I was thinking about replacing it with a GIGABYTE - GeForce GTX 770 4 GB, but I know that upgrading this 3 years version Alienware sometimes has caused compatibility problems with GTX 7xx series because of the non updated BIOS...I just want to ask if some of you have bought any NVidia GTX 770 and if it's working.

Thanks,
Valentina

I have a GTX 770 4Gb, works without a single problem (I don't have an Alienware). If you could specify the motherboard on your Alienware, that would help anyone looking at this thread.

Sure, here you have the specs of the Alienware Aurora R3 mobo:
Alienware 046MHW

Socket Type: LGA 1155
Chipset: Intel P67 Express

Here you can find the complete specs for the mobo: http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-046mhw-a00-alienware-5h49372011/

I know that is a P67 mother board and that it could support the GTX 770, but I've read many people in Alienware forum that has compatibility problem maybe because the old BIOS (version A06 of 2011) and I'm looking for any owners of an Aurora R3 that has upgraded it.

Thanks for the help

Yeah, my best recommendation is to get a new MoBo. Get a Z87 Chipset MoBo (new generation).
The only problem I foresee, is that there won't be enough space in your PC Case.

I think I solved your main problem. Hope it helped.

PS. With all that you will probably need a new CPU too (you have an lder generation). The time might have come to buy a new PC

I already have a Sapphire R9 280X Toxic which is longer than the 770 for about 1,5 cm :) Anyways thanks fot the suggestion but I can't afford a new PC right now, I just want to talk with someone that has the same Aurora R3 with a 770! I know that your solution would be the easiest, but I will give a try anyways!

I have the GeForce GTX 760 and it works flawlessly. Unfortunately I purchased the R9 270x only to find the R9 series is not compatible with the stock 046MHW motherboard. The issue is the bios version and according to Dell they are no longer supporting that motherboard so there will be no bios updates that would would solve the incompatibility issue. The GeForce 7xx series is supported just not officially. If the 770 gives you issues then I would recommend the 760 as I can confirm that works...at the least the MSI Twin frozor version.

It will work. I am running the MSI GeForce GTX760 right now. You can replace your motherboard and your copy of Windows will still work. Make sure you have the recovery CD with your copy of windows because you will have to re-install it to make sure that everything runs smoothly. If you dont do a fresh install you will setting yourself up for issues down the road. You can re-install windows as many times as you want on the same computer no matter what hardware you change and you do not have to pay for a new copy. You might have to call microsoft to get it activated but most likely that wont happen. They have no problem with hardware changes. Good luck

I took it upon myself to try a friends GTX 770 in my R3. It worked!!!, I decided to try his card since I ordered the evga 780 Ti SC acx but read that the board was having compatibility issues. It worked just fine, if anything, disable #7 in your bios (UEFI)
