Black screen after new gigabyte Motherboard installation

Hi, I recently upgraded my motherboard to a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P. I also upgraded the CPU to a AMD FX 6300 along with new RAM (Corsair Vengeance 8GB)

I switch the PC on after installing the components, the power is running, the fans on the heatsink and the case are running, but all I get is a black screen.

Is it a problem with the graphics card? I'm still using an ancient ATI Radeon card - maybe it's not compatible with the mobo?

Or could I have messed up the installation of the new processor? It was my first time installing a CPU and I wonder if it stuffed it up. The heatsink is working, I just wonder if the processor itself went wrong.

Thanks.

I didn't have the chance! The only reason I upgraded my motherboard is because my old one literally fell to pieces on me. It was over 5 years old, and the heatsink just fell off my old processor, so I couldn't boot up. I couldn't get into my old PC to do a reinstall.

I've never done a motherboard upgrade before, so I don't really know what I'm doing.

You have to install an OS onto the new set-up.
In bios make sure cd/dvd is first boot device.
Load Operating system disc in tray.
Restart pc and the OS set-up will load.
Once it's finished you go back into bios and change the boot mood device to hdd as 1st/priority.
Then load the mobo cd drivers.

That's the problem - I can't even get onto the BIOS screen. The monitor light comes on, but all I get is a black screen. That's why I thought it might be a graphics card issue.

Am I supposed to just put the disc in and hope for the best?

Yes, the 4 pin power connector is plugged in.

I have also noticed that when I turn the PC on, although the mouse lights up, the keyboard is still inactive - I press the caps lock button but the light doesn't come on. I think I read somewhere that this is a sign of a faulty motherboard. Maybe someone here can confirm this, I'm not sure how true this is.

How big is your power supply?

600W.

You're too late anyway. I've returned all the new parts I ordered and ordered a new desktop online. I don't have the time to figure out what went wrong, so I ordered a whole new PC.
