W7 support time line

I'd like to know how long W7 will be supported by M$ with security updates. I've read some web articles that say until 2020.

I'm on XP now and have looked at W8 but just cannot stomach paying out for an O/s that is roundly panned by many reviewers, and to my eyes looks like something to avoid (like Vista on steroids). So I'd be happy to jump to W7 if the security patching support is reasonably lengthy.

Ok thanks for that!

So not worth jumping to W7 for non business users because patching support ends in <1yr for 'Joe public'. So M$ seems to be forcing people into W8.

I think I'll look into installing Linux on a box to do my web surfing and keep my XP & W7 boxes offline after April 8, 2014 & January 13, 2015 respectively!
