Hey guys,
I've recently been having a very annoying problem. My initial boot time is perfectly normal until login, but after i login it stays on the welcome screen for a much longer time than usual.
After it changes, there is just a black screen with my cursor on it, but no desktop. It stays like this for ~5-10 seconds then plays the windows login sound, and shows the desktop as per normal.
This is a very frustrating problem; does anyone know of a fix?

Obviously you have many other programs trying to auto run after windows has loaded.
Good examples are auto updater programs such as for Adobe flash player, The Java platform updater. and many of the tool bar plugins that add them self to browsers.

Once in windows 7 or 8 in the search box type msconfig.

Press enter.

A window will open, and there is a tab that says start up programs.
Anything set to auto run after windows has loaded is ticked.
To stop them from doing so un tick them and click apply.
Then windows will speed up from the login screen to the desktop on the next reset or start of the system. The delay is all the programs set in start up after windows os has loaded.

It`s a common problem if you have had a system for a while and installed programs that are set to auto run after windows has loaded causing the delay from login to desktop.
