Hi I have just brought a brand new Radeon R9 290X Tri-X graphics card I have a 750W Psu I installed the card and plugged in the 2 power leads to the gpu (8pin + 6pin power connectors) I did have the Nvidia GTX 650 ti ssc and that started crashing with purple squares all over the screen so I upgraded to the R9 290X but first I removed all Nvidia drivers for the 650ti and shutdown the pc then installed the R9 290X booted my pc and installed the correct Amd drivers for my card, I then went onto Valley benchmark to see the Improvements and the second valley loads in and starts using the gpu the pc powers off and when I say power off its like pulling the power lead out.... the other thing is when the pc powers off it wont turn back on I have to unplug it for around 10 seconds to get it to turn back on if i try before 10 seconds it still wont power on Its very odd any idea on what this may be? I have ordered another PSU 850W just to be safe but the thing is my 750W is like 6 months old brought brand new same with all parts in the computer there all under a year old and all brought brand new...

Everything used to work perfect until my 650ti went strange and now that I just spent almost £500 for a gpu that kills my pc I would love some help to figure this out.

PC SPECS:
Windows 8.1 (64bit)
8gb 1600 ram
1tb sata hd
500g sata hd
750w psu
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 motherboard
Amd FX 6300 3.8mhz Cpu
GT 630 gpu (currently)

4 fans - 2 fans bringing fresh air in 2 pushing old air out
Good case ventilation

Cpu temps are great idle 12c while gaming (Rust - Low settings) 35c using arctic silver paste
I have also cleaned all dust out from the fans and all clumps of dust laying about.

All items that have been installed in the case where handled with care and an anti static band was applied to my wrist and case I take good care of my computer :)

I even went as far as changing the power lead and when that did not work I tried replacing the fuse in the plug (sometimes its just the simple things that mess you around)

Any help will be great Im stuck and have no idea what to do. I will just add I can run valley benchmark and play games with the card im currently using (GT 630) but my guess would be its a power issue for sure either the card has been sold to me damaged for almost £500 or my psu cant handle the card???

I also went here http://support.asus.com/PowerSupply.aspx?SLanguage=en and typed in my computer specs and it says my system should be good on a 750W psu and when I done this I listed the R9 290X and it came back to the 750W needed

PSUs are not just about Wattage. A high quality 600W PSU will output true 600W while a cheap 750W PSU could output less than 550W. Also the Amps on the V12 rail or rails is important. If your PSU has enough Wattage, but not enough Amps on the V12 rail, you might experience something similar to your problem. Please post the brand and the exact model of the PSU you have and of the new one you ordered so we can help further.

Ok the Psu I currently have is: Ace Black Edition A-750BR the one that I have ordered is: ARTIC BLUE 850W here is the ebay link to the item that will have more info for you: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281138247857?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

As for the cpu at 12C is it bad having it that cold? when I open my pc case it is like opening a fridge its super cold in there.. I was just thinking something that get really really cold can start to go slow can this be the case for a cpu to?

Nothing wrong with cold; it's good, it's just that it's quite uncommon. Is it near an outside vent or something? Theoretically, it won't be colder than room temperature.

Both those PSUs are junk and won't be able to deliver rated power, and could take the rest of your computer down if they fail. You want a good quality 600W+ PSU from the second link in my sig for that build.

Ok but considering I have been running with no problems at all for a year then I change to the R9 290X I doubt its down to the make of the PSU there just have to be another problem here.

To be truly honest both of those PSUs are pure junk. You can't expect to pay 30 pounds for a decent 850W PSU (i even found that ARCTIC BLUE 850W for 27 pounds). Decent 400W PSUs are 30 pounds.

On your explanation - PSUs lose some of their initial capacity over time. A quality 500W PSU brand new will output 450W after 2-3 years. A junk 500W PSU will struggle to output 300W in an year. Also the Sapphire website points out it need at least 41 Amps on the V12 rail. Your first power supply has 2 12v rails with 22 amps each, but since it is such a low quality, it probably can not provide it and that is why you experience shut downs at full load.

Sorry, but everything up until now points out a PSU problem. Do yourself a favor and get one of these:

PSUs are exactly - you get what you pay for. You go cheap - you get junk. Not to mention that when a power supply goes out, it might take few components with it. NEVER SKIMP ON PSU!

What typically happens with those cheap PSUs is that they're a unit of half to a third the capacity with any 'optional' components (like fuses, line filtering, protection etc.) removed. It's entirely plausible that it can't feed your 290X.

Look at the first link in my sig for what a crap PSU can do if it fails.

Hi you guys where correct the one I had ordered was a bit of crap xD I installed it in my system just to use until I save up for a better one just so I could at least use my computer... It all seemed fine when I powered on for the first time I got to windows login screen I logged in I then jumped ino valley benchmark to see how good the graphics card is compered to my old gtx 650ti ssc and well valley benchmark started loading but the second it loaded into the actual benchmark the psu exploded but luckily I placed my old one back in worried that my pc would not work or damage had been done but everything seems to be ok I ran mem tests and stress tests and everything works ok so it looks like I was very lucky to have not damaged my components. Lesson learned never buying cheap shit again and the company that made that power supply should be ashamed !
