Hello, I was just wondering what the best laptop would be for a small bit of editing and minecraft mainly. As i'm getting a gaming PC I don't want to spend to much on a laptop.
I'm mainly looking for something which will run fast and be capable of editing and running minecraft. Even if you could let me know what brand to look for and what specs I should be looking at.
Thanks.

A laptop with an i5 CPU and 8 GBs of RAM will serve your needs well! Look for sales on Asus, Sony, HP, Toshiba, Dell.

You are welcome! Definitely look for sales and promos at TigerDirect, MicroCenter, Best Buy, Newegg, Amazon, and others. Prices fluctuate greatly.

I would not recommend toshiba or hp. I have only had trouble with them.
The hp died after just 1 year, and the toshiba i got now sucks at fullscreen, the colors spasses out.
The toshiba's charger is making the whining which really sucks, since it is a desktop replacement.
I have only had network problems on my toshiba.

If i had to buy a laptop again, i wouldn't pick toshiba or hp. Thats just my opinion and experience though, you can get good computers from these brands, but it isn't common i see a happy HP or toshiba customer..

I have heard similar comments about new cars. And hard drives too. Every brand no matter which brand has its share of bad product; usually it is a small percentage.

I have heard more than enough about toshiba sucking. My toshiba performs well, but if i got the choice of getting a similar performance laptop from msi/asus, i would do it. Honestly. Great bang for the buck though, and nice design.

Yes Asus frequently comes on sale at TigerDirect. One thing that scares me about Asus and all the others is the tech support, or lack of it.

Reading reviews help and we have to take into consideration that most of the reviews are from people who have complaints or bad experiences. This skews the data somewhat.

I havent heard bad about asus yet, but in my country, if there is problems with the computer, you tell it to who you bought it from. They will take it up to asus support, and most of the times you get replacement.

My friend got a lenovo with i5 4200u
8gb ram
gt 720m gpu

He does the same as you, but a little bit more editing. Lenovo IdeaPad S510p
He sometimes wishes that he had an i7, but in a laptop, he was definately happy with this one. It is not too heavy, and has a nice design. Only normal HD though, you might be able to find a full hd model.
Playing minecraft, good framerates. I could maybe even recommend optifine for you. Boosted me from 50 fps to 150-200ish fps.

Return to the store is generally within 30 days of purchase, after which we have to deal with the manufacturer via emails, chat, or phone. RMA is not the manufacturer's first choice.

In denmark, i had a pc, it kinda had problems. told it to the reseller or whatever it is called. A shop like newegg.
They were like "All right... we are taking care of it" and i got a new pc..
It is usually 1-5 years i can do it.
But it doesnt matter if its only in my country. A little off-topic.

yeah, but in US you dont have like 25% taxes :/  it makes parts very expensive here in europe...
Back on topic - I haven't heard anything bad about lenovo either. They make great pc's, good quality and good performance.

Agree! Lenovo is also a good brand!

Here the next big sale will be during 'Spring Break' (for schools and colleges). After that will be the Easter sale. I usually wait for sales or promos for buying items. Price is a major factor in determining what brand to buy.

Hardware doesn't have big sales in my country, only prebuilt systems, and laptops, so that is great. Not the hardware though, it really sucks, but makes sense. Couldn't have a 780 ti priced at 770's price...

Here every commercial product and service has sales on a periodic basis. The merchants have divided the calendar year into 10 or 12 'sales periods' which is good for the consumer. In addition, we have a good healthy refurbished market and a 'used' market. Newegg, Amazon, eBay, Craig's List - Caveat Emptor!

we have stuff like ebay too, but it cannot be trusted rly... often times it is like face to face buying when on ebay. There is no trust here.

In Latin it means "Buyer beware!" and in English it means eBay! :)
