Hi there. New in these forums.

Yesterday I downloaded an update for IObit Malware fighter. was clicking through until I realized that I should have chose "custom install" and deselected the yahoo toolbars, etc. I was very stupid and should have read ugh...

now my computer has a 14% increase in cpu usage- even when i'm doing absolutely nothing. Whenever I wasn't doing anything on my computer (i.e. just waiting on the desktop's wallpaper), the cpu usage was only 0-2%. now it's 14-17%. My internet explorer has been hijacked by yahoo and it becomes my homepage every time i start up my computer. google chrome was also controlled by yahoo but i managed to delete the folder "spigot" or something from program files x86 and it managed to heal chrome.

but IE is still corrupted by the damn yahoo homepage thingy. Plus, my computer seems to have gotten slower in general. It takes longer to load things and slower to surf the web.

not only that, but the fan in my laptop makes more noise even when i'm on the desktop doing nothing. the fan speeds up and slows down over the course of maybe 10 seconds. i'm not sure if this is related to the virus or just a reaction to the heating of my cpu.

I figured i have a virus so i ran malwarebytes antimalware in safemode but it didn't catch anything. that's the only thing i ran in safemode, though.

So, here I am asking for help lol. Please help me fix my computer. I will be very grateful. plus, i'll give you a free hug! :3 virtual though, i can't afford real hugs :(

Thanks! I tried it out and my cpu usage went down to 1-4%! that program seems to have worked.

however... my internet explorer is still hijacked by yahoo. my default search engine is google right now but no matter what i do the homepage still reverts back to "http://search.yahoo.com/?type=800236&fr=spigot-yhp-ie".

how do i fix this? i have a feeling the virus is still in my computer.

btw here's a virtual hug for helping my cpu *hug* :D

you should be able to change you homepage in IE
Menu>Tools>General [tab] there will be the homepage section. Type www.google.com Then apply.

for the search engine Menu>Tools>Programs [tab] choose manage add ons. You wlll see the section of search providers. remove it
That out to take care of everything.

Best luck.

well, after hours of scanning my computer for viruses with different softwares and googling solutions, i managed to get rid of the goddamn virus.

i had to delete a lot of files.... and it turns out some of the files responsible for sheltering the stupid virus that forced me to have ####ing yahoo as my homepage in internet explorer were inside my advanced systemcare folders.

gg, asc. i uninstalled everything from iobit and the viruses are gone. time to search for a nice pc repair software that won't kick me in the balls.
