Upgrading: GTX 750 Ti or GTX 650 Ti Boost?

Hello Tom's Flock of Geniuses,

I just recently purchased a Dell XPS 8700. It came with an underwhelming GT 635 1GB DDR3 GPU. It does happen to have an i7 - 4th Gen, 12GB ram, and a 460w PSU. I was hoping out of the box gaming performance would be pleasing, but it isn't as powerful as wanted. (I only bought this computer the way it was because I got 12-month interest free financing to afford it.)

I saw the GTX 750 Ti released with its low $150 price tag, and I got excited. But it also got me thinking; is the best option I have for an upgrade? My questions are:

1) Am I going to get a noticeable and worthwhile performance boost by upgrading from the GT 635 to the GTX 750 ti?

2) Am I better off going with a GTX 650 Ti Boost (both price AND power in mind), instead of the GTX 750 ti?

3) Is there something else you would recommend for only a little more cash that would still work with my current PSU?

Thanks in advance for your help. Your responses will have a great affect on where my money goes (I'm not very well informed.)

2-3. 750 TI is your best bet. Decent price, sufficiently powerful, very effective, will not strain the psu, long support (as it is very new).
And if you decide to upgrade again, it will be easy to sell at lesat for the next 2 years.
For pure performence 650 TI boost is slightly better, but all thing considered I'll get 750TI 100%.

The jump from GT 635 to a 750 Ti would be pretty big. I believe that the 650 ti boost has a little more power than the 750 ti but i would still probably go with the 750 ti since it is Maxwell architecture and probably has some newer features. Also, I think most 650 ti boosts are sold out.

Without changing your PSU, the 750 ti would be my recommendation.

It's meant to replace the GTX 650 Ti, and it's one of the best cards in that price range. It not only performs roughly 25% faster than the old 650 Ti, it also uses very little power (so it would be great for your low wattage PSU).

If your budget is $150, I think the GTX 750 Ti is %100 the way to go.

Alternately, if you had $50 more, I would recommend the GTX 660. However, to run anything more powerful you would need to upgrade your PSU. Even the 660 would be cutting it close (very close).

I hope that helps!

Edit: Sorry, I thought you said GTX 650 Ti, not Ti Boost. I didn't recommend the 650 Ti Boost because I don't think you can find it anywhere anymore. It also would be cutting it close with your PSU.
I still think the GTX 750 Ti is the way to go. Especially with a pre-built PSU, you don't want to push that thing's limits.

I picked up a 750Ti and I'm impressed with its performance out of $150 (well $159 was the pricetag) and consumes significantly less power than the next card with identical performance, and most of the 750Ti cards don't even have PCI-E connectors.
