Hello I want to repost my answer here because I post it in the wrong section sorry :

I Had a question about game engines : Can game engines provide exclusively next-gen graphics even if they are compatible with the old consoles like ps3 ? I ask this because I saw some new engines that are just compatible with ps4 or pc like unreal engine 4 and others backward compatible with ps3 like anvil next so i want to know

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but most of the newest game engines are developed to service the last-gen consoles while scaling up to the highest-end PCs. So they run well with all the eye candy turned off, but have access to incredibly detailed rendering techniques like advanced soft shadows, displacement mapping, real-time reflections, multi-bounce lighting with ray-approximation, subsurface scattering, advanced physics and particles, etc.

Cryengine, Frostbite 3, and Unreal Engine 4 are the biggest names in next-gen graphics engines, though a surprising amount of devs are creating their own engines these days.
